About Me

Jonathan is a passionate hobbyist photographer from Singapore, known online as GrumpyOogway. Specializing in travel and street photography, Jonathan’s work is driven by a deep curiosity about the world and a desire to capture fleeting, candid moments that often go unnoticed.

He originally chose to photograph under a pseudonym to keep the spotlight on his imagery rather than his identity, encouraging viewers to engage more deeply with the emotion and story behind each frame.

His preferred focal length is 35mm. An intentional choice that reflects his belief in the power of observation. The natural perspective of this lens closely mirrors the human eye, allowing him to compose scenes without the compression of telephoto lenses or the distortion of ultra-wides. For him, the 35mm focal length offers just enough constraint to challenge creativity, turning every frame into a deliberate act of seeing.

His style often incorporates strong use of light and shadow, negative space, and the quiet tension of waiting for the right moment. Rather than chasing perfection, he embraces the beauty of imperfections and the emotional undercurrents in ordinary scenes.

Jonathan also finds the tactile experience and colour science of Fujifilm cameras essential to his creative process. The intuitive controls and film simulations help him stay present and immersed while shooting.

Beyond the lens, he hopes to inspire others to slow down, notice more, and appreciate the quiet poetry of everyday life. He enjoys connecting with other creatives and believes that photography is as much about the journey as it is the final frame.
