Kantaya New
Kantaya New is an internationally award-winning Thai–Singaporean photo artist working across street and conceptual photography. Having lived in Bangkok, Tokyo, and Singapore, her artist’s eye has been shaped by all three cities.
On the street, she treats photography as slow living, looking past the visual coincidence to the deeper questions and meaning underneath. She strives to find what she calls “unpolished diamonds” amidst an overly optimized screen-aged life.
Her conceptual series go further: A Modern Day Affair explores how technology can become the “other party” in a relationship. The Little Prince looks at how one can keep that childlike passion and wonder while growing up, and Dare to Be You turns the camera and questions what our identity means in this modern world.
In both, she uses humor to draw people in, puts them at ease so that viewers can be more accepting of a differing point of view.
Recognized by leading photography organizations worldwide, selected honors include:
• 2026 7th Annual FujiFanBoys Best of Show — 2nd and 5th Place
• 2026 15th Leica Street Photo Contest — Finalist
• 2025 SONY Alpha: MX Street Photo Contest — 1st Prize
• 2024 Fujifilm Moment Street Photo Awards — 2nd Prize
• 2023 LensCulture Critics’ Choice Award — Winner
• 2022 Sony World Photography Awards — Shortlist (Alpha Female Award & Open Competition, Lifestyle)
...among many others.
Her work has been exhibited across internationally, including In Our Own Frame during Singapore Art Week 2026 and Fujifilm Photo Festa 2026 in Seoul, both presented by DECK Photography Art Centre, with features in Lenscratch, All About Photo, art4d, and Street Photography Magazine, among other publications.
As she puts it: “I want my photos to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”
